The wait is over! It’s Thanksgiving AND Bear Mountain officially opened yesterday. That means in one great weekend, you can have your turkey dinner, burn it off at the mountain then start your holiday shopping.
This week, Bear Mountain has been blessed with loads of fresh snow, thanks to both mother nature and Bear Mountain’s awesome snowmaking skills. Chair 5 is open with access to Central Park and Chair 9 is open with access to Rip’s Run, Powder Bowl and Park Run. For beginners, Chair 7 will give you access to Inspiration. There are also features all over the mountain for every level of rider, including a 100 ft rail if you’re feeling hardcore.
Bear Mountain’s first major event, Analog’s Design Unlikely Features Contest, is happening on Dec 18. In the past few months, over 300 entries were submitted with the hopes of becoming the most creative, ride-able and build-able custom-built jib. The winner has already been announced, but it’s not over yet. In a few weeks, the first-ever contest will be held on that winning feature at Bear Mountain.
If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts, this weekend is the perfect time to get a head start on your holiday shopping. The Christmas Boutique takes place every Thanksgiving weekend at the Big Bear Convention Center and features over sixty handmade vendors from all over the Western United States. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
